A wealth advisor business partnership built around compliance

A wealth advisor business partnership with Random Income lets you introduce business-owner clients to growth technology and marketing services, never securities or insurance, and earn a commission when they buy. Random Income handles the sale, delivery and support while you keep the advisory relationship. Because your firm's rules come first, this page starts with outside business activity approval and disclosure.

Your best clients run businesses

For many advisors, the most valuable households on the book are owned by people who run companies. Their personal wealth is tied to the business: its cash flow funds the retirement plan, its valuation drives the estate plan and its eventual sale is the liquidity event you have been planning around for years.

That gives you an unusual vantage point. In a review meeting you hear that revenue has stalled, that the sales team is underperforming, that the owner wants to sell in a few years but worries the company is too dependent on them. You cannot fix those problems with an allocation change. But a business that grows, systematizes and becomes less dependent on its founder is worth more, and that is good for your client and for the plan.

A business referral relationship lets you do something useful about it. When the conversation turns to growth, you can introduce a vetted service, disclose the relationship and let Random Income take it from there.

Why growth conversations belong in a planning practice

Advisors have spent years moving from product sales to planning, and planning increasingly means the whole balance sheet. For a business owner, the largest asset on that balance sheet is usually the company, and its value depends on things no portfolio review can fix: a repeatable pipeline, modern systems and a brand that buyers can find.

Every industry is a geek away from being uberized, and owners can feel it. They hear that AI is changing how customers find suppliers, that competitors are using data they do not have, and that the old referral-only growth model is fragile. They rarely know whom to ask. An advisor who can point to a credible next step, with the relationship disclosed and no pressure attached, becomes more central to the family's decisions. That is the real value of a wealth advisor referral done well: the client sees you looking after the whole picture, not just the accounts.

Compliance first: outside business activity and firm approval

Before anything else, talk to your compliance department. If you are a registered representative, FINRA rules generally require you to give your member firm written notice before engaging in an outside business activity for compensation, and many broker-dealers require pre-approval. Investment adviser representatives typically face similar requirements under their RIA's compliance manual, and an RIA may need to consider whether the arrangement creates a conflict that should be disclosed to clients.

The Random Income offers you would refer are business technology and marketing services. They are not securities, not investment advice and not insurance products, and they should never be presented as part of your advisory service. Keeping that line bright is what makes approval realistic.

  • Submit the arrangement to compliance as an outside business activity and wait for written approval before referring anyone.
  • Disclose the referral relationship to each client in writing at the time of the introduction.
  • Keep referrals out of investment recommendations, plan documents and anything that could look like a quid pro quo.
  • Never use client account data, statements or nonpublic information to identify prospects.
  • Keep a simple log of introductions in case your firm asks for one.

Which client conversations lead to which offers

The strongest financial advisor referral is one that answers a problem the owner raised first. These are the patterns that come up most in practice.

  • Planning for an exit and worried about founder dependence: Consulting with Jeff Cline for executive strategy on technology, predictive analytics and AI, and the Big Idea application at jeff-cline.com/idea for owners who want to see if they qualify for a larger technology investment.
  • Revenue flat despite more marketing spend: Predictive Data, which identifies who is in-market and delivers it into the CRM, and MoneyWords.org, which maps the highest-value money words in the market to the offer.
  • Customers find competitors through AI assistants: Quuik, Trusted GPT, which works to get a business cited when people ask AI and answer engines.
  • Growth depends on referrals and relationships: contacts.plus Business, a business presence, trusted referrals and a relationship CRM.
  • A professional-services firm with a neglected email list: Smart Email from siimpler.com for warm, opted-in email that nurtures and onboards.

A financial advisor referral script that stays on the right side of the line

Clients trust you because you put their interests first, so the language matters. A pattern that works is observation, option, disclosure, permission.

You mentioned the business has grown mostly through your personal relationships, and that worries you for the sale. There is a firm I can introduce you to that helps companies like yours build a pipeline that does not depend on you. I want to be clear that I have a referral relationship with them and may be paid if you buy, and it has nothing to do with your accounts with us. Would you like an introduction?

If the answer is no, the conversation returns to the plan and nothing changes. If it is yes, you send your share link or upload the referral, include the disclosure in writing, and step back. Random Income runs discovery, proposals, delivery and support, and you can see in your back office whether the client clicked, filled in a form or asked for a quote.

The financial advisor referral fee, in plain terms

Strategic Partners are 1099 independent contractors, never employees. On stack products the commission is a percentage of retail calculated on redline, the price floor: 20% if the client buys entirely online without our team touching the deal, 12% if an in-house Random Income rep works it, and pro-rata to redline if we negotiate the price.

Fast Start ($32,500 a month) and the Joint Venture build ($18,200 a month) pay your percentage only on the monthly SaaS fee actually collected, with no equity and no success fee. Investor-funded deals pay a one-time $5,000 referral fee and nothing else. When a business posts its own offer on Random Income, you earn 50% of what that business pays us.

We pay on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500, by Stripe or PayPal. You upload an ID and a W-9 and receive a 1099-NEC. Your firm may require that outside compensation be reported, so keep compliance informed.

When an advisor should not participate

Do not join if your firm prohibits outside business activities for compensation, if compliance has not approved the arrangement in writing, or if your practice is built almost entirely on retirees and households without business ties. The program is also a poor fit if you would feel pressure to refer clients to justify the time; the best wealth advisor referral is occasional, obvious and clearly in the client's interest. When those conditions are met, it can be a quiet, useful complement to a planning practice.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a wealth advisor business partnership with Random Income?

It is a referral arrangement in which an advisor introduces business-owner clients to growth technology and marketing services in the Random Income network and earns a commission when they buy. The offers are not securities or insurance. You work as a 1099 independent contractor, with your firm's approval, and Random Income handles the sale, delivery and support.

Can financial advisors receive referral fees?

Often, but only within firm and regulatory rules. Registered representatives generally must notify their broker-dealer of compensated outside business activities, and many firms require pre-approval; RIAs have their own conflict and disclosure policies. Our offers are business services, not securities, which helps. Get written approval from compliance and disclose the relationship to every client you refer.

How does the financial advisor referral program pay?

Stack products pay 20% of retail on redline when the client buys fully online and 12% when our rep works the deal, adjusted pro-rata if we negotiate. Business-posted offers pay 50% of what the business pays us. Payouts run on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500, and you receive a 1099-NEC.

Will referring business services affect my advisory relationship?

It should not, if you keep the two clearly separate. Present the introduction as an option unrelated to the client's accounts, disclose the referral relationship in writing, and let the client decline without any change to your service. Because Random Income handles pricing and delivery, you never negotiate with your own client, which keeps the advisory relationship clean.

Do I need to be licensed to refer clients to Random Income?

No license is required to refer business technology and marketing services, because they are not securities or insurance. Your existing licenses still bring obligations, though. If you are registered, your firm's outside business activity rules apply, and you should not refer until compliance approves. Strategic Partners join as 1099 independent contractors, not employees.
