Referral partner programs

How to get paid for referrals that are worth your reputation

You can get paid for referrals by joining a referral partner program that pays commission when the people you introduce become paying customers. The referrals that pay meaningfully are business referrals to premium services, because a single client can be worth far more than any consumer sign-up bonus. At Random Income, Strategic Partners refer businesses as 1099 independent contractors, our team sells and delivers, and commission is calculated on redline.

Consumer referral apps versus professional referral programs

Most of what comes up when people search for ways to make money from referrals is consumer: refer a friend to a bank account, a meal kit, a ride-share app or a credit card and collect a small bonus. Those programs are fine for what they are. They pay a flat amount, they are capped, and they reward volume, which tends to mean posting links to strangers.

Professional referral programs work differently. You introduce a business, not a consumer, to a service that business genuinely needs, and the provider pays a share of what the client spends. Because business services cost more and often recur monthly, a single well-placed introduction can matter more than a hundred app sign-ups. The trade-off is that you need real relationships with business owners or executives, and a referral has to be good, because your name is on it.

That is why Random Income looks for people who already have a career and a network. Every industry is a geek away from being uberized, and the professionals who see it coming in their clients' businesses are the ones best placed to make the introduction.

Why premium business referrals pay what they do

A business buying a growth service is solving a problem worth real money: an empty pipeline, invisible search presence, a product stuck at the idea stage. The provider can afford to pay a meaningful share to the person who made the introduction, because a warm referral closes faster and stays longer than a cold lead, and because the provider did not have to spend on advertising to find the client.

That is the economics behind the products in our stack: Predictive Data, Quuik, vrtcls.marketing, KeywordCalls, Smart Email, FeatureMe, contacts.plus Business, Consulting with Jeff Cline, and the two premium programs, Fast Start and the Joint Venture build. They are business services with business-sized price tags, so the commission on them is business-sized too.

How commission on retail and redline works

On stack products, you earn a percentage of retail calculated on redline. Redline is the price floor, the lowest price the product can be sold for. Using redline as the basis protects the deal and keeps commission honest when prices move.

  • 20%: the client buys entirely online, untouched by our team.
  • 12%: an in-house Random Income rep has to work the deal.
  • Pro-rata to redline: if we negotiate the price, your commission adjusts in proportion.
  • Fast Start ($32,500 a month) and Joint Venture ($18,200 a month): your percentage of the monthly fee actually collected only, with no equity, success fee or other upside.
  • Investor-funded deals: a one-time $5,000 referral fee, nothing else.
  • Business offers posted on Random Income: 50% of what the business pays us.
  • contacts.plus: 20% when the client buys directly online, 12% when an in-house Random Income rep sells it.
  • Recurring fees: commission continues for as long as the client keeps paying.
  • Refunds and chargebacks: the commission on that sale is deducted from your balance.

Who can get paid for referrals, and who should check first

In many fields, earning a referral commission for introducing one business to another is an ordinary arrangement, but never assume it is allowed for you. Check your profession's rules on referral fees; some professions restrict or prohibit them. CPAs work under the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct (ET 1.520) and state boards. Attorneys work under state bar rules, many modeled on ABA Model Rules 5.4 and 7.2. Real estate and mortgage professionals face RESPA Section 8 for settlement services. Financial advisors usually need firm approval for outside business activities. Healthcare professionals must never be paid for patient referrals.

If you are employed, your employer's moonlighting, conflict-of-interest and non-solicit policies apply as well. None of this is legal advice. Disclose every commission to the person you refer, and check with your regulator, firm or attorney if you are unsure.

Referral habits that keep the commissions coming

The people who earn steadily from referrals over years tend to follow the same quiet discipline, and almost none of it is about selling.

They refer the problem, not the product. Instead of announcing a new tool, they listen for a pain the client has already named and offer an introduction to someone who solves it. They disclose every time, in writing, so the commission never becomes a surprise that colors the recommendation later. They refer sparingly. An adviser who sends one strong introduction a quarter is trusted far more than one who forwards every offer that crosses the desk, and trust is what gets the next introduction accepted.

They also close the loop. When a referral becomes a client, a short note asking how it is going tells the client you care about the outcome, not the fee. When a referral goes nowhere, they let it go without chasing. And they never treat their contact list as inventory. Uploading a whole address book or blasting a link to strangers is the fastest way to turn a professional reputation into a spam folder.

Finally, they pick programs that make all of this easy: clear attribution, written terms, visibility into every referral and a team that does the selling so the partner never has to.

A realistic way to start

Begin with the people who already ask your opinion. A client who says marketing is not working, a former colleague who just launched a company, a friend running a practice who complains that new customers have slowed. Those are referrals waiting to happen.

Take the short test about your strengths and hours, and our matching engine shows the opportunity that fits. You get a profile page, a share link, a QR code and a back office where you can upload referrals, single or by CSV, and see every click, form and quote request. Random Income does the selling, delivery and support. Payouts run on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500, after you upload an ID and a W-9. Most partners spend about two focused hours a week. Some months nothing closes, and that is the honest shape of referral income.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can you get paid for referrals?

Yes. Many companies pay commission or a fee when someone you introduce becomes a paying customer. Consumer programs usually pay small flat bonuses, while professional programs pay a share of what a business client spends. Some professions restrict or prohibit referral fees, so check your rules and always disclose. Random Income pays Strategic Partners commission on business referrals as 1099 independent contractors.

How do I get paid for referrals to businesses?

Join a professional referral program, get a tracked link or portal, and introduce business owners who genuinely need the offer. At Random Income, you take a short test, get matched, and share your link or upload referrals. Our team sells and delivers, and you are paid on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500.

Do doctors get paid for referrals to specialists?

Generally no. The federal Anti-Kickback Statute prohibits paying or receiving anything of value for referrals of patients covered by federal health care programs, and the physician self-referral law known as the Stark Law restricts referrals to entities a physician has a financial relationship with. Many states have similar rules. Legitimate referrals to specialists rest on clinical judgment, not payment.

Do dentists get paid for referrals?

Dentists generally should not be paid for referring patients. State dental boards commonly restrict fee splitting and payment for patient referrals, and the federal Anti-Kickback Statute applies where federal programs such as Medicaid are involved. A dentist referring another business to a marketing or technology service is a different matter, but should still disclose and check with their board.

Do employees get paid for referrals?

Often, through employee referral bonuses for recommending candidates who are hired, set by each employer's policy. Getting paid by an outside company for referring business is different: check your employer's moonlighting, conflict-of-interest and non-solicit rules first, and never refer your employer's customers or use company time or tools. Random Income partners are 1099 independent contractors, separate from any job.
