Referral partner programs

A referral partner program for HR consultants and fractional CHROs

A referral partner program for HR consultants lets fractional CHROs, people-operations advisers and HR consultants refer clients to sales and marketing technology when the honest answer to a growth problem is not another hire, and earn commission as 1099 independent contractors. Random Income handles the sale, delivery and support. You keep your advisory role, your confidentiality obligations and your independence.

The headcount request that is really a pipeline problem

HR consultants see growth plans in their rawest form: the hiring plan. A CEO asks you to build a job description for a business development manager, then a second one, then a sales operations analyst to support them. You ask the questions a good HR adviser asks. What will this person actually do in the first ninety days? Where will their leads come from? How long until they cover their own cost? Very often the answers reveal that the company does not have a talent problem. It has a demand problem, and it is trying to solve it with salaries.

You are in a rare position to say so. Recruiters are paid to fill the role, and managers want the headcount. You are paid to get the people strategy right, which sometimes means suggesting that the company first fix how it finds customers, then hire into a working system rather than hoping a new rep will build one alone.

Every industry is a geek away from being uberized, and that includes how companies staff growth. More businesses now combine a small core team with technology, data and independent contractors. Helping a client see that option is good HR advice, whether or not a referral follows.

Confidentiality, independence and your client agreements

HR consultants handle some of the most sensitive information in a business: compensation, performance issues, investigations, terminations and restructuring plans. None of that ever belongs in a referral. You never upload employee names, personnel data or anything you learned in confidence. A referral is the company name, the business contact who asked for help and a short note about the need.

Review your consulting agreements too. Some engagements include exclusivity, non-solicitation or conflict-of-interest clauses, and fractional CHRO roles in particular can look a lot like an officer position, with the duties that come with it. If you sit on a client's leadership team, disclose any referral relationship to the CEO or board in writing before you introduce a vendor, and think carefully about whether you should refer your own client at all. Professional codes such as SHRM's call for transparency about conflicts of interest.

This is general information, not legal advice. If your engagement terms are unclear, ask the client or your own attorney. Never tell a client that a referral is part of your HR recommendation unless it is genuinely independent of the fee.

Technology that substitutes for or supports a hire

The strongest fits are the tools that either replace the first sales hire or make the hire productive from week one.

  • Predictive Data: identifies who is in-market in the client's territory and pushes it into the CRM, so a new rep starts with real prospects rather than a cold list.
  • vrtcls.marketing: intent-based outbound email where every click makes the next send smarter, often a better first step than hiring an outbound rep.
  • KeywordCalls: live, high-intent inbound phone calls on the client's keywords, useful when the sales team is good at closing but short on conversations.
  • Smart Email from siimpler.com: warm, opted-in email that nurtures and onboards, a fit for teams that lose leads between first contact and sale.
  • Posting an opportunity on Random Income: for clients who need commission-based sales coverage, businesses can post an offer and be matched with 1099 Strategic Partners rather than hiring employees.

How the program works around client engagements

Take the free test about your strengths and the hours you have, and the matching engine shows the opportunity that best fits your profile. You get a profile page on randomincome.com with a share link, a QR code and a back office. Most HR consultants plan on about two focused hours a week.

When a client is open to it, you share your link with a written disclosure, or upload the referral yourself. Random Income handles discovery, the proposal, delivery and support with the client directly, and you stay out of pricing. Your back office shows every click, form and quote request on your referrals, so you can check in on a workforce plan without becoming the salesperson.

The referrals that age best are the ones you would defend in front of the board. If a client later asks why you suggested technology instead of the hire they requested, you want the answer to be your analysis of their pipeline, not the commission. Keep a short note of why each introduction made sense.

  • Take the free test and get matched.
  • Separate the referral from any confidential HR work.
  • Disclose in writing and introduce the business contact.
  • Random Income sells, delivers and supports.
  • Track activity and commission in your back office.

HR consultant side income: the terms

Strategic Partners are 1099 independent contractors, never employees of Random Income, and accounts are held by individuals, never by your consultancy. You will appreciate the precision: we do not control how or when you work, and there are no quotas or required hours. On stack products you earn a percentage of retail on redline, the price floor: 20% when a client buys fully online untouched, 12% when an in-house Random Income rep works the deal, and pro-rata to redline if we negotiate. Recurring commissions last as long as the client keeps paying; refunds and chargebacks are deducted.

Fast Start ($32,500 a month) and the Joint Venture build ($18,200 a month) pay your percentage only of the monthly SaaS fee collected. Business-posted offers pay 50% of what the business pays us. Payouts run on the 21st of the month after we are paid once your balance reaches $500, after you upload an ID and a W-9; you receive a 1099-NEC.

Questions that open the conversation

A few openings that fit a workforce planning session or a quarterly review:

Before we write this job description, where will this person's first fifty conversations come from?

If the new rep cost the same as a year of data on who is actively in the market, which would move revenue faster?

You are about to hire a third salesperson. Have the first two had enough qualified leads to tell whether the problem is people or pipeline?

These are HR questions first. If the answer points to technology, introduce, disclose and step back. If it points to a hire, you have still helped your client make a better decision.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a referral partner program for HR consultants?

It lets HR consultants and fractional CHROs refer clients to sales and marketing technology, often when a requested hire is really a demand problem. You introduce, Random Income sells, delivers and supports, and you earn commission as a 1099 independent contractor. Confidential personnel information is never part of a referral, and you disclose the relationship in writing.

Is it a conflict of interest for a fractional CHRO to refer vendors?

It can be, especially if you sit on the leadership team. Disclose any referral relationship to the CEO or board in writing before introducing a vendor, check your engagement agreement for conflict clauses, and consider whether to refer your own client at all. Many HR advisers refer peers' companies or former clients instead.

How does the HR professional referral program pay?

Stack products pay 20% of retail on redline when a client buys online untouched, or 12% when an in-house Random Income rep works the deal, adjusted pro-rata if we negotiate. Recurring commissions continue while the client keeps paying. Payouts run on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500. There are no promised results.

Can HR consultant side income come from clients I currently advise?

Sometimes, if your agreement allows it and the client agrees after written disclosure. Never use confidential information to identify opportunities, and keep the referral clearly separate from your HR recommendations. If you are unsure whether your engagement terms permit it, ask the client or your attorney before making the introduction.

Are Strategic Partners employees or contractors?

Strategic Partners are 1099 independent contractors, never employees of Random Income. Accounts are held by individuals only. You choose whether and when to refer, set your own hours and have no quotas. Before your first payout you upload an ID and a W-9, and you receive a 1099-NEC for commissions paid.
