Referral partner programs

A recruiter referral partner program for when the answer is not a hire

A recruiter referral partner program lets executive recruiters and talent partners earn commission when a client's growth problem is better solved by technology than by a new hire. You introduce the CEO, Random Income handles discovery, proposal, delivery and support, and you are paid as a 1099 independent contractor. It sits alongside your placement business rather than competing with it.

You hear the growth plan before anyone else does

Executive recruiters have an unusual seat. A CEO who wants a new head of sales has to explain why: pipeline is thin, the last two reps did not work out, the board wants growth by next year. A founder searching for a marketing leader tells you the agency is not delivering and nobody can say where leads come from. You hear the strategy, the frustration and the budget, often before the leadership team does.

Sometimes the honest answer is a hire. Sometimes it is not. A company that wants a VP of business development to fix an empty pipeline might first need to know who is actually in the market. A founder who wants a growth marketer might be better served by getting cited in AI answers and taking live calls on the right keywords. Good recruiters already say this out loud. A referral partnership lets you act on it, keep the client's trust and earn on the advice.

Recruiting is being uberized like every other industry, with AI sourcing and on-demand talent compressing the routine work. Recruiters who act as advisers on growth, not just on headcount, stay in the room.

Placement fees and referral commissions are different animals

Searches for a finders fee in employment or recruitment usually mean one thing: a fee for introducing a candidate who gets hired. That is your core business, and nothing here touches it. A referral commission from Random Income is paid for introducing a business client to a product or service, not a person to a job.

The economics differ too. A placement fee is tied to one hire and one invoice. A referral commission on technology can follow the client's monthly spend on our premium programs, because Fast Start and the Joint Venture build pay your percentage of each monthly fee we actually collect. And the work differs: there is no search, no shortlist and no replacement period, just an introduction and a back office that shows what happened next.

Conflicts to settle before the first introduction

This is general information, not legal advice, and your firm's rules come first.

  • If you work for a search firm, read your employment agreement and outside-activity policy. Many firms require approval for outside compensation, and some prohibit it.
  • Check client contracts for exclusivity, off-limits and confidentiality clauses. Never use information from a retained search to source referrals elsewhere.
  • If a client hires you to fill a role and you suggest technology instead, say so plainly and disclose that you may earn a commission. Let the client decide.
  • Never refer candidates through Random Income. Candidate data stays in your systems and under your privacy obligations.
  • Refer only products that do not compete with your firm's own services.

Signals in a search brief that point to technology

A few patterns show up in intake calls again and again. Each one is a moment to ask a single question before you write the job description.

  • We need a closer because the pipeline is empty: Predictive Data identifies who is in-market now, delivered into the CRM, and vrtcls.marketing runs intent-based outbound email.
  • We need a growth marketer because nobody finds us: Quuik gets a business cited when people ask AI and answer engines.
  • We need inside sales to answer more calls: KeywordCalls delivers live, high-intent phone calls on a chosen keyword.
  • We need a CTO to build our product: Fast Start takes an idea to a product in market, which may change what kind of technology leader the company needs.
  • We need a fractional executive to sort out strategy: Consulting with Jeff Cline covers executive strategy on technology, predictive analytics and AI.

How the program works for a talent partner

You take a short test about your strengths and the hours you have. Our matching engine shows the best-fit opportunity, and you get a profile page at randomincome.com, a share link, a QR code and a back office. Fractional executive recruiters and independent talent partners often find the profile page useful as a second credential to share with founders.

When an intake call reveals a technology problem, send your link with a disclosure note or upload the referral. Random Income handles the sale and delivery. You see every click, form and quote request on your referrals, which is a useful read on how serious the client is about growth before you start a search. Most recruiters spend about two focused hours a week on it.

The conversation usually happens at intake, when you are already asking hard questions. Before we write this job description, what would this person fix in their first ninety days? If the answer is that the team does not know who to call, it is fair to ask whether they would like to see in-market buyers first and decide on the hire after. Some clients will still want the search, and you run it. Others will thank you for saving them a hire they were not ready for, and those clients tend to come back when they are. Either way, your reputation as an adviser rather than a vendor grows, which is the long game every good recruiter plays.

Commission terms for recruiters

Strategic Partners are 1099 independent contractors, never employees. On stack products, commission is a percentage of retail calculated on redline, the price floor: 20% when the client buys entirely online untouched, 12% when an in-house Random Income rep works the deal, adjusted pro-rata to redline if we negotiate. On Fast Start ($32,500 a month) and the Joint Venture build ($18,200 a month), you earn your percentage only of the monthly fee collected, with no equity or success fee. Investor-funded deals pay a one-time $5,000 referral fee. Business offers pay 50% of what that business pays us.

Payouts run on the 21st of the month after we are paid, once your balance reaches $500, by Stripe or PayPal, after you upload an ID and a W-9. We issue a 1099-NEC. If your client is a company looking for commissioned sales talent rather than technology, our business side lets it hire 1099 reps directly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a recruiter referral partner program?

It is a program that pays recruiters for introducing business clients to products or services, separate from placement fees. With Random Income, recruiters refer clients whose growth problems are better solved by technology than a hire. Our team sells and delivers, and the recruiter earns commission as a 1099 independent contractor. Candidate referrals are not part of it.

Is a referral commission the same as a finders fee in recruitment?

No. A recruitment finders fee is paid for introducing a candidate who is hired. A Random Income referral commission is paid for introducing a business to a product or service it buys. The two can coexist, but keep them separate, disclose any commission to the client and check your firm's outside-activity policy before referring.

Can executive recruiters earn side income without hurting their search business?

Yes, if you refer only non-competing products, disclose commissions and never use confidential search information. Many recruiters find that suggesting technology when a hire is premature builds trust, which leads to better searches later. Check your employment agreement and client contracts first. Most recruiters spend about two focused hours a week on referrals.

Do I have to become an employee to join the hiring referral program?

No. Every Strategic Partner is a 1099 independent contractor, never an employee, and keeps their own recruiting business or role. You choose when to refer, with no quotas. Before your first payout you upload an ID and a W-9, and Random Income issues a 1099-NEC for commissions paid during the year.
